Are You Rushed or Ready? (FutureSYNC Consultants, 2015)
Have you ever thought about the outcomes of your work when you are rushed versus when you are ready? Close your eyes for a minute and think about what it feels like to be rushed in your work…
Maybe you came up with some of the following feelings: anxiousness, confusion, pressure, judgement, and even inadequacy.
Now close your eyes and think about what it feels like when you are ready for what is ahead of you in your work.
Maybe you came up with some of these feelings: confidence, preparedness, comfort, hopefulness, positivity, and even courage.
Most people want to experience the feelings associated with being ready rather than being rushed. Here are three tips to be ready rather than rushed when it comes to your daily work.
1. Prepare yourself mentally for the day. (Know what today is about.)
a. Define why your work is important today.
b. Understand your own emotions and mental state before your interactions.
c. Predetermine what will get your attention today.
2. Prepare physically for the day. (Equip yourself for the day.)
a. Fuel your body adequately. Set good food patterns.
b. Give yourself enough time to walk into work rather than being rushed out of the door to get there.
c. Ensure that you have all the tools you need today.
3. Decide to slow it down today. (Use intentional movements.)
a. Give yourself the appropriate time to make the right decisions.
b. Determine what is necessary and needed at this moment.
c. Don’t allow others rushed behavior to rush you and your work.
