Have you ever been around a leader or an organization that seems to have it all together? Have you recognized that they don’t get pushed off course easily? These types of leaders seem to know when to slow down, when to speed up, what to address and in what order to address them.
Great leaders and organizations do not allow themselves to be guided by simply having the right answers, or just possessing authority to make the call, or even solely on exhibiting hopefulness to get there. Great leaders have a backbone of helpful mechanisms. Do you have the right helpful mechanisms? As a leader, do you use them often enough to keep your focus on the right target – the right destination? Have you defined and installed mechanisms to keep the organization “on course”? How often are these discussed? How often do you see others use these defined mechanisms to course correct themselves or their area of influence? Remember the FSI mantra “if it is not written down, it does not have to exist the way you want it to”.
